After our visit to the Tauranga Art Gallery to see the "Street Art" we decided to do some street art of our own.

As part of uou Puppets Unit we were lucky to have Dan the Puppet Man come in from Puppet Vision to make puppets with us. He also showed us some of his puppets. We were able to have turns using his new animated mechanical puppets. We were lucky to receive the Bones Box from the House of Science. We had fun putting bones x-rays back together and discussing the bones in our bodies. While on camp we also were given a guided tour of the Katikati murals by Isabel.
It was very informative and kept the parent helpers busy finding out the information on the task sheet.
of Day 1
On Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd March Rooms 8 and 9 went to camp at Aongatete Lodge. We were met by Karen who told us about the bush and how it is being looked after to help bring back the native birds. After an hour long bush walk we arrived at camp. We all had lunch then found our bunk rooms. The children were split into teams for five different activities. They were stacker, train tracks, challenge course, games, possum decorating and nature walk with leaf rubbing. All children and adults had a fun time. Then it was pancake cooking on hobo stoves. Some groups were very competitive. The children were then given free time to make huts in the bush. They were very creative and worked well together. After all that hard work, it was dinner time and birthday wishes to Travis who turned 6 on camp. Before the children went to bed it was show time. It was great to see all the parents involved in the entertainment as well.
Day 2
After one night at camp we had breakfast and packed up. We headed into Katikati for our Musuem tour. We were greeted by Paula who told us all about the Museum. Then we stepped back in time with Miss Logan, Miss Taylor and the other teachers. It was a memorable experience to see what school was like 100 years ago. The children made scones on an old stove, churned butter, mowed lawns, had apple races, ate hay and sang 'God Save the Queen'. One child even experienced the strap. The children really enjoyed the experience, as well as all the adults.
We have been learning about New Zealand birds before we go on camp.
The children had fun using Quiver to make these pictures and video.
We also painted our favourite bird using water colour paints. When they had dried we went over them in vivid and crayon to add detail and texture to our work. We think they look amazing.
The Junior School having been learning about rock pools. We had a wonderful day walking around the Mount and exploring the rock pools.
Thanks to all the wonderful parents who joined us on our trip. For two days last week we had Nicole Banks from Zero Waste visiting our class to teach us about ways to reuse items in our rubbish to help protect our environment. We learned about landfills and how we can help prevent filling them with so much rubbish. We played games with many reused items. The games were: bowling, stilts, hopscotch, telephones and tiddly-winks.
We have taken part in New World's Little Garden promotion. We have had fun planting our seeds and now it is time to watch them grow.
