of Day 1
On Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd March Rooms 8 and 9 went to camp at Aongatete Lodge. We were met by Karen who told us about the bush and how it is being looked after to help bring back the native birds. After an hour long bush walk we arrived at camp. We all had lunch then found our bunk rooms. The children were split into teams for five different activities. They were stacker, train tracks, challenge course, games, possum decorating and nature walk with leaf rubbing. All children and adults had a fun time. Then it was pancake cooking on hobo stoves. Some groups were very competitive. The children were then given free time to make huts in the bush. They were very creative and worked well together. After all that hard work, it was dinner time and birthday wishes to Travis who turned 6 on camp. Before the children went to bed it was show time. It was great to see all the parents involved in the entertainment as well.
Day 2
After one night at camp we had breakfast and packed up. We headed into Katikati for our Musuem tour. We were greeted by Paula who told us all about the Museum. Then we stepped back in time with Miss Logan, Miss Taylor and the other teachers. It was a memorable experience to see what school was like 100 years ago. The children made scones on an old stove, churned butter, mowed lawns, had apple races, ate hay and sang 'God Save the Queen'. One child even experienced the strap. The children really enjoyed the experience, as well as all the adults.
